Nancy Kokoshis, 42, a former nurse midwife, died Jan. 3 at Triangle Hospice in Hillsborough, N.C. Mrs. Kokoshis was born in Chicago and raised in Aurora. She received a bachelor’s degree in sociology from the University of Illinois and a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Northwestern University. She later earned a master’s degree in nursing from Case Western Reserve University in Ohio. It had always been her dream to work with newborns, her husband, Joe Galas, said. “She was devoted to her profession,” Galas said. “She always believed in giving quality care to people.” A longtime employee of the University of Chicago Hospital and the Visiting Nurse Association, she moved to Chapel Hill in 1995 where she became a nurse midwife at Lincoln Community Health Center in Durham, N.C. Survivors include her husband, and two daughters, Renee and Nia. A memorial service will be held at 4:30 p.m. Saturday in First Presbyterian Church of Deerfield, 824 Waukegan Rd., Deerfield.
