Sidney Sigel, 72, a real estate attorney and former prisoner of war, died Jan. 9 in his Palos Park home. A Chicago native, Mr. Sigel was in the Army in World War II when he was captured during the Battle of the Bulge. He survived five months of captivity in a German prisoner of war camp. After the war, he earned degrees from the University of Illinois and DePaul University. He was admitted to the bar in 1950 and practiced law until his death. “He never bore any grudges and gave everyone the benefit of the doubt,” said his wife, Barbara. Mr. Sigel is also survived by two sons, James and Robert Sigel; a stepson, Gregory Lichneckert; a daughter, Nancy Lewis; a stepdaughter, Gwen Bulthaup; and four grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Feb. 1 in Sheehy Funeral Home, 9000 W. 151st St., Orland Park.
