Calling a proposed subdivision for homeowners 55 years of age and older “a desirable addition to the village,” the Plan Commission has approved zoning changes needed to develop the 36-unit project.
The age-qualified residential community would be the first retirement project built by the Green Oaks-based Meister Group Ltd., said Jerome Meister, president of the development group.
“We think the property is very well situated in terms of location near shopping and transportation,” Meister said of the 9.95-acre site on Midlothian Road, just north of Illinois Highway 60/83.
The Plan Commission unanimously approved annexing one acre on the southwest corner of the property and rezoning the nine acres within the village from commercial to single-family residential zoning.
The commission also approved in a 4-3 vote a series of zoning variations Meister Group requested, including reduced lot size from the required 10,000 square feet to 6,500 square feet.
The proposal must also be approved by the Village Board.
