Columnist Charles Krauthammer (Op-Ed, Jan. 12) suggests that the early retirement of experienced physicians in response to their declining income and power should make us concerned about the skill of the next person we see on the other side of a surgical mask.
On the other hand, if income and power truly were determining factors in the doctors’ choice of career, perhaps we should be more concerned whether the procedures they would have performed were necessary in the first place. Personally, I feel a lot safer with them on the golf course now.
