Several residents asked the Village Board Tuesday night to intervene with School District 300 plans to bus some Algonquin students to Dundee-Crown High School in Dundee rather than to Jacobs High School in Algonquin.
Resident Debbie Schoenherr said the plan calls for only 19 Algonquin Middle School 8th graders to attend Dundee-Crown instead of Jacobs next year and a total of only 67 students over the next three years.
Schoenherr said those students would be isolated from their community while doing little to relieve the overcrowded schools.
“How much of an impact can these 19 children have on the overcrowding at Jacobs?” she asked.
Resident Mary Warren asked trustees to table an ordinance that would allow construction of additional homes in the Willoughby Farms South subdivision until it can be determined that there is room in the schools.
Trustees passed the ordinance, saying the property was annexed in the early 1990s, when such questions should have been raised.
Village President Ted Spella said he would talk to District 300 officials, but said there were “no guarantees.”
