Dr. Sam Mikaelian, superintendent of Wilmette Elementary School District 39 for the past six years, submitted his resignation to the school board Tuesday night.
Mikaelian served 31 years with the district.
The board accepted his resignation, effective at the end of the school year, “with deep regret.”
Board President Holly Berman said: “He is irreplaceable. His 31 years have been a work of love.”
The board will begin searching for a new superintendent at a special meeting Monday.
