Verna Norman, 88, a longtime resident of Barrington, died Thursday in Mequon Care Center, Mequon, Wis. She was the cafeteria manager at the former Jewel Tea Co. in Barrington. She was born in Barrington and lived most of her life there except for two years in the 1940s, when she opened a small fast-food restaurant in Tampa. She also worked for the former Grey Dove Printing Co., Palatine. “I remember helping her at the Jewel (Tea Co.) picnic when I was in high school,” said her sister, Ruth Lindberg. “We served 1,000 people, and she cooked for all of them.” Mrs. Norman was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, Barrington. Other survivors include her daughter, Jean Myers. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in St. Paul United Church of Christ, 401 E. Main St., Barrington.
