In the Jan. 20 editorial “Oprah fights the burger war,” your tongue-in-cheek suggestion for new legislation is appalling: “The Illinois General Assembly might want to enact legislation against disparagement of TV talk show stars.”
Oprah Winfrey doesn’t need the protection–she can stick up for herself. Who would benefit, then? Jerry Springer, for one. Please don’t suggest, even in jest, making it illegal to speak our minds about the host of Chicago’s most lurid television program.
