I enjoyed reading Alfredo Lanier’s commentary on his trip to Cuba (Op-Ed, Jan. 20). His unflinching description of the “separate and unequal” lifestyles of whites and blacks in Cuba could have been used to describe life for blacks in Peru, Brazil and the United States. Racism has been the most enduring product of the trans-Atlantic slave trade.
