Edwin R. Stone, 66, a retired physician from La Grange, died Friday in Columbia La Grange Memorial Hospital. Mr. Stone was born in Waukegan. He earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1952. He studied meteorology at New York University and served as a meteorologist in the Air Force from 1952 to 1957. He returned to the University of Illinois, where he received a medical degree. Mr. Stone then worked as a staff physician for Illinois Bell and Ameritech and retired in 1993. A resident of La Grange for 26 years, he previously lived in La Grange Park and Joliet. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in La Grange. Mr. Stone is survived by his wife, Joan; a daughter, Sarah Cooke; a brother; and a grandson. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday in the Blackburn Giegerich Sontag Funeral Home, 1500 Black Rd., Joliet, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday in Grace Lutheran Church, 200 N. Catherine Ave., La Grange, followed immediately by funeral services.
