Stanton B. Iverson, 84, of Des Plaines, a World War II Army Air Corps veteran and a former owner of Iverson Brothers Wrecking Yards in Des Plaines and Arlington Heights, died Saturday in his home. Mr. Iverson was born in Chicago and later moved to Park Ridge. He graduated from Maine East High School in 1933. He and his brothers, Pete and Robert, started the wrecking yard business before the war, said Gary Swierenga, a nephew. In the early 1970s, they sold some of the businesses, but Mr. Iverson continued to keep his hand in one in Wisconsin, said another nephew, Paul Iverson. “He continued working, even though he was slowed down a bit,” Paul Iverson said. “His family came first to him.” He recalled how his uncle enjoyed collecting and rebuilding antique cars and motorcycles. The family still has a Model T Ford the brothers bought in 1939. Other survivors include his wife, Jennie; a brother; and a grandson. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Oehler Funeral Home, 555 Lee St., Des Plaines. A service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
