Arwind U. Vasavada, 85, a Jungian psychoanalyst and longtime resident of Chicago, died Jan. 9 in Bombay. Mr. Vasavada was a member of the Chicago Society of Jungian Analysts, and met clients and held Friday evening seminars at his homes in Hyde Park, Belmont Harbor and Rogers Park. He came to Chicago in 1970 at the invitation of members of what was then the Analytical Psychology Club, now the C.J. Jung Institute, to teach in its public education and professional training programs. As his health declined, Mr. Vasavada moved to the West Coast in 1995 to live with his son, Nitin. In late December, sensing he was close to death, he prepared to return to India. While en route, he stopped in London and Abu Dhabi to visit with friends. Survivors include his two sons, Nitin and Rajendra; two daughters Padmini Shanghvi and Kumundini Mehta; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the C.G. Jung Institute, 1567 Maple Ave., Evanston.
