In the Feb. 3 Tempo article about George Wallace, Wallace’s former press secretary, Frank Mastin Jr., states that Wallace “. . . was not responsible for the racial climate of the time; he simply voiced what was going on.”

Indeed. And the Nazi butchers stoking the ovens at Auschwitz, Bergen-Belsen and Buchenwald, to name just a few, also were not responsible for the racial climate of the time, were they? They, too, simply voiced what was going on. And willingly participated in the slaughter of 6 million Jews.

Darn that history. It just keeps repeating itself, doesn’t it?
