John Campbell Carpenter, 82, of Homewood, a retired U.S. Agriculture Department economist, died Wednesday in Olympia Fields Osteopathic Medical Center. He worked for the Agriculture Department for more than 40 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Maren; three daughters, Christina, Neysa Garrott and Jane Thomas; a sister; two brothers; and four grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Church of St. John the Evangelist, Park Drive and Leavitt Avenue, Flossmoor.
