The Oak Brook Plan Commission got its first official look Monday night at a developer’s plan to build housing on 34 acres coveted by the village’s Park District.
Callaghan Associates wants to build 92 single-family homes at 31st Street and Illinois Highway 83, and the developers are targeting the project at wealthy empty nesters. Prices are expected to be in the $600,000 range.
Officials from the company detailed the proposed project until late into Monday night as about 50 residents listened. Commission officials said another hearing will be held at a date to be determined to receive public comment.
The Park District opposes the idea of developing the land. On March 17 the district will ask voters to approve $9 million in bonds for the purchase of the land. Park District officials said that additional open land is better for the area than more housing.
