Tired of Plain Jane fashion? Monotonous clothes that seem to be begging for a touch of feminine frippery? If so, you can breathe a deep sigh of relief.

Bring on the embroidery. Indulge in some sequins, even if they’re just a lightly traced pattern or a subtle edging. Invite texture and pattern to collide in a glorious riot. Add a fantasy element to an otherwise stark silhouette: a spray of flowers at the neckline, a butterfly alighting on a camisole strap or a glimpse of lace. An accessory or two might even be in order.

Spring’s offerings enhance without overpowering, thanks to their clean, simple lines. And pretty is once again being appreciated–not only for what it brings to the clothes, but for what it brings to the wearer.

“Women want to be flattered,” says Bill Blass. “They’ve got enough of those severe plain clothes. Unless you’re a raving beauty, plain clothes aren’t going to help you out much.”

Yes, richness is back. And it’s about time.
