Over the objection of 20 neighbors, members of the Rolling Meadows Plan Commission voted unanimously to recommend preliminary approval of a 10-lot subdivision in unincorporated Palatine Township.

Residents at a recent Plan Commission meeting said they feared the proposed Maverick subdivision, to be built along Fairfax Street west of Benton Street, would exacerbate flooding.

Plan Commission Chairman Thomas S. Vincent said the builder, William Tarsitano, would have to abide by city ordinances limiting storm-water runoff.

Additionally, Tarsitano would have to link his subdivision to a storm sewer system, said James Muldowney, city engineer. Residents in the area use wells and septic fields.

Neighbors also criticized its density. Ten 3-bedroom to 5-bedroom $400,000 homes would be constructed on 10 lots on the 2 3/4-acre parcel.

House lots in the surrounding neighborhood range in size from two-thirds of an acre to 1 acre. The City Council, which would have to approve the annexation of the parcel, is expected to hear the case in March.
