Not to be confused with “mall rats” -those rodent-like teens who scurry through America’s meccas of cookie-cutter commerce – the “Mall Bats” are coming. Stratford Square Mall, at Army Trail Road and Gary Avenue in Bloomingdale, presents “Masters of the Night,” a free display running Monday through April 11. This educational exhibit presents the true story of bats through special effects, interactive displays and simulated environments, including a Gothic castle. It also promises to “disabuse people of bat bigotry,” according to the press release. The hope is that people will stop saying nasty things about bats after they see how much these winged creatures contribute to the world’s ecology. Too bad the image makeover doesn’t cover mall rats.
