As Chicagoans know, much great work is done by quiet, often-anonymous people. So it was with Wacker Drive, which you reported will be repaired (Page 1, March 1). The handsome, French-inspired balustrades, luminaires and pylons along Wacker are the work of Scipio Del Campo, an Italian-born architect who created impressive designs for public works projects across the city.

Del Campo has been almost forgotten, but not quite. The Art Institute’s architectural fragments collection, which includes work of Frank Lloyd Wright, Daniel Burnham and Louis Sullivan, recently expanded to include a relief panel created by Mr. Del Campo for the now-demolished Ogden Avenue bridge.
