Richard Frey, 73, of Houma, La., a former Des Plaines resident and Maine Township High School District 207 math teacher, died Saturday in Houma. Mr. Frey was a World War II Army veteran and, for 34 years, a high school mathematics teacher. Mr. Frey, who was born in Minneapolis, earned his bachelor’s degree from Carthage College in Kenosha and his master’s degree from the University of Illinois. He taught at Maine Township High School, Park Ridge, now Maine East, from 1950 to 1959, and at Maine Township West High School, Des Plaines, from 1959 until his retirement in 1984. After moving to Louisiana in 1990, he devoted time to his lifelong interest in watercolor painting. Survivors include his wife, Jean; two sons, John and Joseph; two daughters, Gail Akins and Laura; a sister, Shirley Miller; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Services will be Tuesday in Houma.
