The Warren-Newport Public Library Board agreed the library will house a pilot computer program providing free community service information.

The board approved a proposal by Lake Bluff-based BVM Communications Inc. to install–for an unspecified trial period–a kiosk featuring a touch-sensitive computer screen where users can call up and print listings on such topics as emergency transportation, shelter, food and clothing. The board did not take formal action at Tuesday’s meeting.

The service will be paid for by business advertisers who have their messages displayed, said BVM President Angela Tomlinson.

The fledgling database includes hundreds of non-profit agencies in Lake County and the Gurnee library will be the first public governmental location.

“The library is a great place for something like this,” library board President Carol McConnell said.
