John L. Damko, 61, of Palatine, was office manager and a machinist at Donlon Engineering Co., Elk Grove Village, for 45 years. Mr. Damko died Wednesday in his home after a long battle with cancer. He graduated from Fenwick High School in Oak Park in 1954 and received a degree in business from Loyola University Chicago in 1967, after attending night school for many years while working. Karl Butt, a friend and co-worker for 40 years, said: “He was a caring person. He took care of the people here.” Survivors include his wife, Barbara; two daughters, Deborah and Laura; and a sister, Irene Donlon. Prayers will be said at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home, 185 E. Northwest Highway, Palatine. Mass will be said at noon in St. Theresa Church, 467 N. Benton St., Palatine.
