Ann Muran, 84, of Arlington Heights, who owned a floral shop, died Friday in Northwest Continuing Care Center in Arlington Heights. Mrs. Muran owned Sylvia’s Flowers in Arlington Heights, where she had started working as a floor sweeper 43 years ago. Mrs. Muran was born in Skokie, when it was known as Niles Center. She grew up on her family’s vegetable farm in Buffalo Grove and graduated from 8th grade at St. Mary’s Grammar School in Buffalo Grove, said her daughter, Cynthia Platt. She married her husband, Joseph, at 21 and moved with him to Arlington Heights, where she lived for the rest of her life. Mrs. Muran was active in community groups and volunteered at St. James Church in Arlington Heights. After her husband’s death in 1969, she bought Sylvia’s Flowers. In addition to Platt, Mrs. Muran is survived by another daughter, Phyllis; three sons, Thomas, Donald and Joseph; nine granddaughters; six grandsons; two great-granddaughters; and a great-grandson. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday in Glueckert Funeral Home, 1520 N. Arlington Heights Rd., Arlington Heights. Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Monday in St. James Church, 831 N. Arlington Heights Rd., Arlington Heights.
