Why does Hollywood ruin so many otherwise good films with foul language?

I’m referring in particular to the highly touted “Good Will Hunting.” It was advertised as a “feel-good” movie and has been nominated for many awards.

My friends and I were thoroughly disappointed in this production. Yes, the basic plot was good, but the crude and vulgar language spoken throughout the film was thoroughly disgusting. This was used not only by the young men but professional people as well. Will’s girlfriend added her share of vulgarities.

The “f” word was spoken at least 50 times. It was said in nearly every possible way–as a noun, a verb and an adjective, etc. I was surprised they didn’t add an “ly” and use it as an adverb.

I came out of this movie very depressed. If this movie gets such rave reviews, what is happening to our culture? Must Hollywood use shock value to get attention and acclamation? Where are the creative writers? One thing for sure–Hollywood has done its share of polluting our language.
