Herbert W. Ness, 72, of St. Charles, died Thursday in JFK Hospital in Florida. Mr. Ness was president of Paradise Sales & Marketing, based in St. Charles, and worked in the family-owned and operated business for 50 years. Mr. Ness came to the United States from Germany at age 2. He had formerly lived in Lombard for 21 years. A 23-year resident of St. Charles, Mr. Ness was an ensign in the Navy during WWII and served in the Pacific on the USS ATR-50. He graduated from St. Mark’s Lutheran School and the Luther Institute in Chicago and the University of South Carolina. A memorial service was held Monday.
