John N. Boley, 63, a retired law partner at Mayer, Brown & Platt who specialized in financial transactions, died Friday of lung cancer in Sarasota Memorial Hospital in Florida. A native of Goshen, New York, Mr. Boley graduated from Princeton University and Yale Law School. He moved to Chicago in 1961 and joined the law firm where he remained until he retired in 1996. Mr. Boley also played a crucial role in Lawyers for Judiciary, a committee formed by lawyers opposed to the confirmation of Judge Robert Bork as Supreme Court justice in the 1980s. Mr. Boley was a longtime resident of Wilmette. After his retirement, he and his wife Tica moved to Longboat Key, Fla. Other survivors include two daughters, Taemie Saucerman and Helen Boley Iaco; three sons, Eric, Garrett and John Feraday; his mother, Edna; a brother, William; four sisters, Connie, Kaye Papazian, Ann Lee Bonn and Betty Birdianski; and three grandchildren. Private services were held in Sarasota.
