The Academy Awards are as racially biased as the automobile industry and many other racially biased industries. They systematically bypass and eliminate an ethnicity–American blacks–that has supported and sustained their industries faithfully.
With more great black American films this year than ever, there was only Spike Lee’s nomination for Best Documentary. No other American black actors, directors, writers or producers were nominated. This is sheer mendacity.
Rev. Jesse Jackson raised the issue in 1996 concerning a nationwide boycott of the Academy Awards. What America needs now is 50 million more men like Rev. Jackson–both black and white–who will fight for what’s right.
