Sears, Roebuck and Co. has filed a federal lawsuit against Menard Inc., charging the Eau Claire, Wis.-based retailer with infringing Sears’ copyright on its advertising circulars. Sears is alleging that Menard’s, a home-improvement retail chain, copied words, product placement, offers and typeface used in Sears advertising. Sears said it warned Menard’s about the alleged infringement after a December ad, but the replication occurred again in March. Sears is seeking unspecified damages. Menard’s chief executive, John Menard, was unavailable for comment.
