William Cooper, 54, a Chicago Fire Department lieutenant with Battalion 9, died Thursday of a brain tumor in his Northwest Side home. Born in Chicago, Mr. Cooper attended Lane Tech High School before joining the Air Force in 1961 where he received his general equivalency diploma from Luke Air Force Base in Glendale, Ariz. After serving in the military, Mr. Cooper returned to Chicago where he went to work as a pressman for Hall Printing Co. for six years. In 1973, Mr. Cooper became a firefighter. He rose to the rank of lieutenant. He was stationed out of Engine 70 at 1545 W. Rosemont Ave. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; four daughters, Michelle Gwyn, Lisa Vegter, Christine Bencal and Lisa Eads; and a son, William. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Casey Laskowski and Sons Funeral Home, 4540-50 W. Diversey Ave.
