The arrogance and self-delusion of the media is wonderfully illustrated in the Tribune editorial “The case for NATO expansion” (March 13).
The statement “Neither is it a small thing for a newspaper to change its mind on an issue as momentous as NATO expansion . . .” is amusing. Does the Tribune editorial board imagine that the world, or indeed anyone, gasped in response to this information? The Tribune’s change of mind is a “small thing”!
As with all opinion from whatever the source, the Tribune’s ranges from very wise to very foolish, and from dead right to dead wrong. Although its editorial opinion is always of interest, its weightiness should not be misjudged. Pompous and self-important editorial boards would do well to take themselves less seriously.
