James J. Cusack, 67, a retired Chicago Police Department lieutenant and lifelong resident of the city, died Tuesday of cancer in Northwestern Memorial Hospital. “He loved Chicago. I don’t think he would have even considered living outside the city limits,” said his daughter, Mary Jakel. She added, however, that he was proudest and most devoted to his large family. Mr. Cusack was a 37-year veteran of the police department, having served in many parts of the city. His last posting was as a lieutenant in the Rogers Park District. He also was a Navy veteran in the Korean War. Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Margaret; six sons, James, Matthew, Daniel, Michael, Thomas and John; a daughter, Mary; and 11 grandchildren. Services will begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, followed by mass at 10 a.m., in St. Juliana Catholic Church, 7142 N. Osceola Ave.
