Harriet Day, 89, a kindergarten teacher in Chicago for about 40 years, died Wednesday in St. Francis Hospital and Health Center in Blue Island. Born and raised in the city’s South Shore neighborhood, Ms. Day graduated from Bowen High School and received her teaching degree from Chicago Teachers’ College in 1929. Ms. Day spent most of her career teaching at Bryn Mawr Grammar School until she retired to Ft. Lauderdale in 1969. “She was a dear, loving lady,” said Donna Wollenberg, her cousin. “She always talked happily about her teaching days and loved children.” Last October, Ms. Day returned to Chicago and lived at Belhaven Nursing Home. Visitation will be from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday in Blake-Lamb Funeral Home, 4727 W. 103rd St., Oak Lawn. Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Linus Catholic Church, 10300 S. Lawler Ave., Oak Lawn.
