Raymond E. Hendee, 66, of Park Ridge, an educator for many years, died Friday in his home.

The Woodland, Mich., native served as superintendent of Park Ridge School District 64 for 20 years before retiring in 1990. He was a curriculum director and assistant superintendent before his appointment to the district’s top post.

Before his service with Park Ridge, Mr. Hendee, a graduate of Wheaton College, was a junior high school teacher in Glen Ellyn School District 41, where he later became a principal.

Mr. Hendee earned master’s and doctorate degrees in education from Northwestern University in Evanston and served on the Illinois Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, the American Association of School Administrators and the Park Ridge Library and Civic Orchestra Boards.

Mr. Hendee also served as choir director at Faith Lutheran Church in Glen Ellyn for more than 10 years.

Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Dorothy; two daughters, Kristin Girdaukas and Kimberly; a son, Mark; three grandsons; a sister, Arlene; and two brothers, Fredrick and Robert.

Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday in Ryan-Parke Funeral Home, 120 S. Northwest Highway, Park Ridge. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 205 N. Prospect Ave., Park Ridge.
