Robert Falls, artistic director, and Roche Edward Schulfer, executive director of the Goodman Theatre, are to be commended for selecting “Blues for an Alabama Sky” as the third production of the theatrical year.

Pearl Cleage’s drama, set in the Harlem of the 1930s, deals with such current hot issues as abortion, homosexuality, prostitution, race and murder. But they are treated with a sensitive hand in a rational way. The present crop of politicians would do well to study the script.

As perennial patrons of the Goodman Theatre, my wife and I were especially pleased to see a play in which four-letter obscene words were not used as a substitute for normal speech.
