Frances E. Hanson, 84, a former retirement claims examiner for the Railroad Retirement Board, died Sunday in St. Mary’s Home in Manitowoc, Wis. Mrs. Hanson, who was born in Hiles, Wis., worked in Washington, D.C., with the Railroad Retirement Board. She was later transferred to Chicago and lived on the Near North Side for 57 years before retiring to Wisconsin. Mrs. Hanson was a friendly, fun-loving woman who never married but had many friends, said a relative, Shelle McGuire. Mrs. Hanson was a member of Holy Name Cathedral, where she was involved with the Apostolate of the Handicapped service organization. She arranged monthly social activities for the handicapped and made certain they were able to get transportation to church functions or other activities. Survivors include a niece and three nephews. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday in LeMieux-Thielen Funeral Home, 1638 Tenth Ave., Menominee, Mich. Services will be held 9 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home.
