The Arlington Heights Elementary School District 25 Board is expected to decide Thursday how to ease the pinch of overcrowded classrooms in Dryden Elementary School.

Last month, more than 100 residents packed the board’s meeting, urging members to vote against a plan to install a portable classroom at Dryden.

Residents cheered after the board voted 3-2 against buying an $18,000 portable classroom. Another option rejected was converting the Dryden teachers’ lounge into a classroom at a cost of about $30,000.

The board on Thursday is expected to get a new recommendation for Dryden from the district architect.

It also is expected to accept a bid for a portable classroom at Patton Elementary School.

The district will continue to use a portable unit at Windsor School as a short-term solution to what is said to be temporary overcrowding. District enrollment is expected to decrease by the year 2003, officials said.
