An elderly Southwest Side woman was found guilty Friday of traffic violations in connection with a Loop accident on Oct. 8 that claimed three lives.

A Traffic Court judge convicted Eleanor Soltis, 76, of the 3100 block of West 55th Street of disobeying a red light and failing to exercise due care to pedestrians. She was acquitted on the charge that she had been driving an unsafe vehicle, said Assistant Corporation Counsel Dolores Quiroz.

Soltis was driving on Wabash Avenue in a lane with two cars ahead of her when she veered into another lane, went through an intersection at Randolph Street and struck pedestrians in the crosswalk, Quiroz said. The vehicle then passed through a second crosswalk of pedestrians and struck a parked car and a pole before it stopped, Quiroz said.

Killed in the accident were Janina Laskowiecki, 66, and David Flynn, 51, both of Chicago, and Stanislaw Krzywosz, 60, of Cicero. Ten other people were injured.

Soltis is scheduled to be sentenced Wednesday..
