George R. Barzen, 74, a retired engineer with the Chicago Fire Department, died Saturday at his home near Poynette, Wis. After working 33 years as an engineer for the fire department, Mr. Barzen retired in 1981 and moved to Wisconsin nine years ago. In World War II, Mr. Barzen was a technical sergeant who flew more than 30 missions with the U.S. Army Air Corps in Europe. He was a member of the Brandt-Pache VFW Post 10266 and of the Clyde Sheppard American Legion Post 271, both in Poynette. He is survived by two daughters, Lyn Stephen and Jill Gongola; and three grandchildren. In addition to Tuesday funeral services in Wisconsin, visitation will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and funeral services at 10 a.m. Thursday, both at the Beverly Ridge Funeral Home, 10415 S. Kedzie Ave., Chicago.
