William E. Darling, 78, of Buffalo Grove, a retired mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Chicago, died Tuesday in ManorCare Health Services, Arlington Heights. Mr. Darling, who was born in Little Falls, N.Y., worked in the Rogers Park neighborhood. He served as a medic in the Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1946. Survivors include two sons, Michael and William Jr.; six daughters, Nancie Stewart, Sandy Darling, Judy Rivenbaugh, Karen Harvey, Diane Osburn and Patti Costello; two sisters, Betty McHugh and Jean Doyle; 19 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Friedrichs Funeral Home, 320 W. Central Rd., Mt. Prospect. Services will begin at 1 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.
