Planned unit developments are not something to be feared, South Barrington Village Atty. Donald Storino and urban planner Steve Lenet told village officials during a workshop meeting Monday.

The meeting was called by Plan Commission Chairman Frank Munao to give commissioners and village trustees a chance to discuss the possibility of large, mixed-use developments coming to town.

The main concern of many officials is that allowing planned unit developments might result in high-density developments.

Storino and Lenet both said using a planned development ordinance would give village officials more control, not less.

“I am not for or against PUDs,” Storino said. “I simply think that a PUD ordinance is a zoning tool that the village may want to consider using for future development.”
