The Central Suburban South battle between No. 10 Glenbrook South and No. 7 Evanston did not live up to expectations Tuesday as the Titans outlasted the Wildkits 15-9, 15-7 in a game marred by sloppy play.

Glenbrook South (12-2, 3-0) took control of both games early. The Titans went on a 4-0 run to start Game 1, and with the score 5-4 in Game 2, the Titans went on an 8-0 run, benefitting from several Evanston miscues.

Leading the Glenbrook South effort was David Mattas, who had eight kills and two aces. Setter David Kim had 22 assists. Evanston (14-2, 2-1) was paced by Jeremy Hoff who had 14 kills and two aces, but he was also charged with 12 errors.

“We both played like we just came off tournaments. We both looked dead,” said Glenbrook South coach Patty Iverson. “Both teams made errors and it showed. We just happened to be lucky to win.”

Iverson was also pleased with the play of her setter.

“We’ve been working on David Kim. He’s a big guy and he can be a big offensive threat as as a jumping setter. He did very well today.”
