John E. Lehrer, 67, of Libertyville, who was associate general counsel of Sears Roebuck Corp., died Friday in his home of cancer. Mr. Lehrer was born in Appleton, Wis., son of a printer in the Neenah-Menasha area of Wisconsin. Although he left college early, , he went on to graduate from DePaul Law School, working his way through by playing in a jazz band as a saxophonist, clarinetist and pianist. He later received an MBA through Northwestern University night school and passed the certified public accountant’s exam. Mr. Lehrer was remembered by family members for his dry wit and honesty. “He was the most honest man I ever met. He just had the most incredible sense of integrity,” said his son, Joe Lehrer. Other survivors include his wife, Lee; three sisters, Monica Carlson, Loretta Zielinski and Anna Mae; and a brother, Tom. Visitation was Sunday. Prayers will begin at 10:15 a.m. Monday in Burnett-Dane Funeral Home, 120 W. Park Ave., Libertyville. Mass will follow at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph Church, 121 E. Maple Ave., Libertyville.
