John Kass wrote an important column April 30 (“Park illegally, and you may ‘roo the day”). I sent him a letter a few months ago outlining the city’s Nazi tactics when it comes to alleged parking violators.

For example, I have (a) received tickets when parked legally, (b) had meter maids lying in wait to give tickets when signs are missing, (c) been “required” to pay a fine I never incurred on a car I never owned because I never contested the ticket I never got and (d) gotten ticketed for being parked in a residential handicapped space, even though I was parked there when the sign was being installed.

Now Mayor Richard Daley wants to put a lien on your house so the city can make more money through blackmail and extortion. While parking regulations are intended to “expedite the flow of traffic,” is it any surprise that parking violations are under the jurisdiction of the Department of Revenue? We as citizens have certain constitutional rights that city officials are blatantly ignoring in the interest of economics (their own, of course). Let’s not let them get away with this.
