The Winthrop Harbor Village Board appointed a new deputy fire chief as part of its annual reappointment of village employees.
The appointments are made annually as the village employees serve a one-year contract that begins May 1 and lasts through April 30.
In the fire department, Neal Wollert is replacing former Trustee Joe Leech Jr. as the deputy fire chief. In addition, Linda Mellijor has been appointed co-coordinator of the Ms. Winthrop Harbor Pageant.
But in a vote Tuesday night, Leroy Bolt was not retained as the village’s building inspector and zoning administrator.
Mayor Robert Loy said that the decision to not reappoint Bolt comes in an effort to reorganize the Building and Zoning Department. Loy said the position will remain vacant until a decision is made.
Wollert’s appointment came after Leech told village officials he had accepted a position out of state and no longer could serve the village. Mellijor’s appointment was a board decision to expand the Ms. Winthrop Harbor Pageant Board to include two directors.
