Edward Phillips, 78, president of Phillips Brothers Insurance Agency, which was founded in 1873 and is one of Chicago’s oldest insurance agencies, died Saturday of pulmonary hypertension in Northwestern Memorial Hospital. The Phillips Brothers agency, now located at 300 W. Washington St., Chicago, was founded in Chicago by Joseph S. Phillips as an in-house broker with Fred S. James & Co. Mr. Phillips was of the third generation of the family to lead the firm, and his son, Kevin Phillips, will succeed him as president. In 1962, Mr. Phillips incorporated the agency and expanded coverage. A resident of Chicago, Mr. Phillips is survived by his wife, Sue; three sons, Kevin, Steven and Douglas; and four grandchildren. Services will begin at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the May Chapel of Rosehill Cemetery, 5800 N. Ravenswood Ave., Chicago.
