Vernon E. Birk, 89, of Woodstock died Monday in Memorial Medical Center, Woodstock. He served in the Air Force during World War II. He was a lifelong mechanic and worked for the State of Illinois. Mr. Birk was an avid fisherman and gardener. Survivors include his wife, Marjorie; a daughter, Marilyn Troha; a son, William; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in Schneider-Leucht-Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, 1211 N. Seminary Ave., Woodstock, and from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service Thursday in Grace Lutheran Church, 1300 Kishwaukee Valley Rd., Woodstock.
