I thank William Raspberry for his commentary about the issue of family values and parenthood (“The age of undercutting parenthood,” Op-Ed, May 5).

Parents can unite. For example, home educators are striving to not only devote themselves as teachers but are strongly upholding the traditional values and ideals of family in the face of adversity. Our children understand the meaning of honoring their parents.

As home educators, we are a type of warrior in the battles we face.

I agree with Mr. Raspberry that “the pit is getting deeper” when it comes to parental authority being undermined. There are those in our society who are working to make child care “a state issue and a federal issue,” negating the parents, in many cases.

I am afraid that our “family values” are slowly but surely being stripped from our society by those who govern us.
