Graduates of Roosevelt University’s master’s program for mental health will no longer be required to complete two years of post-graduate experience before being licensed to practice.
That’s because Roosevelt’s mental health counseling program and the community counseling program have been accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs, of Alexandria, Va.
Graduates of programs that have the accreditation are exempt from the post-graduate experience requirement and are eligible to sit for the national board exams immediately upon graduation.
Although both programs had been approved by the Illinois State Board of Education and the Illinois Board of Higher Education, neither was professionally accredited before.
