Thanks to Bob Greene for his column on the old G.E. College Bowl (Tempo, May 12). I was a freshman at Bradley University in 1969 when the school’s team went undefeated in the bowl. On the team’s last appearance, we were cheering in the dorm like we were at a Cubs game.
Those four contestants were heroes in our eyes, held in the same high esteem as any sports hero. They made us feel truly “No. 1.”
