Amador Manjarrez, 83, a retired butcher who became a Spanish interpreter in the DuPage County court system, died Saturday at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove. Mr. Manjarrez was a resident of Addison before moving to Downers Grove and was a butcher for 30 years at Macovich Store, a grocery and butcher shop on Maxwell Street in Chicago. Upon retirement he worked as a toll collector for the Illinois Toll Highway Authority. His linguistic abilities cut that job short after two years. Mr. Manjarrez was a popular fixture in the court building for 12 years, but his skills as an interpreter were recognized first by the Bensenville Police Department, where he helped a growing Mexican-American community. He also worked for Addison Township. Survivors include his wife, Beatrice; a son, Ernest; two daughters, Diane Costello and Caroline Chubb; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two brothers. Services were held Tuesday.
